I went down the rabbit hole on M1 Garands and SPringfield bolts some time ago. I backed out and now just have one M1Garand which I still shoot. Mine is a 3/42 gun that I have restored to correct parts except for the elevation knob.
Reloading requires the use of IMR4895 powder. Others have a different burn rate and can affect the blow back of the op rod resulting in a bent op rod. IMR4895 was developed just for the Garand and works very well so far as accuracy and rifle function. I have shot 150 grain but prefer to use the Hornady 165 flat base bulets.
