Hi everyone! Sorry to ask general questions, but after searching for an hour decided I better reach out. Former New York resident, so understandably careful! I believe from what I’m reading that in PA if I purchase a new gun I can transport it from the store to my house in my car without issue, as long as the bullets are in a separate area in my car, and the gun is not loaded. Is that correct? My second and more important question is, do I need to, and if yes how do I, register a gun in Pennsylvania that I already own? I’m not seeing anything about registering guns in Pennsylvania for residents so I’m wondering if it’s not even required? I currently own 2 that were given to me by my ex-husband, and unfortunately I wasn’t given the bill of sales or anything. Reaching back out to him now is not an option; it was not an amicable split and has been 4 years. Thanks in advance for your help! Happy to now reside in a reasonable state!! 😁

There is no requirement that the ammunition be carried in another area of the vehicle. Lacking a license to carry firearms, the only requirement is that the firearm not be carried loaded (in other words, unloaded) as per the definition;

"Loaded." A firearm is loaded if the firing chamber, the nondetachable magazine or, in the case of a revolver, any of the chambers of the cylinder contain ammunition capable of being fired. In the case of a firearm which utilizes a detachable magazine, the term shall mean a magazine suitable for use in said firearm which magazine contains such ammunition and has been inserted in the firearm or is in the same container or, where the container has multiple compartments, the same compartment thereof as the firearm. If the magazine is inserted into a pouch, holder, holster or other protective device that provides for a complete and secure enclosure of the ammunition, then the pouch, holder, holster or other protective device shall be deemed to be a separate compartment.

If you decide to get your PA License To Carry (and you should!) and carry your transplanted FA, make sure you can prove ownership to LE should you ever have to. Some cops still insist handguns must be ''registered'', even though PA law sez otherwise.

Some say ''they can't do that!'' but we know they do!

And get yerself a copy of the Pennsylvania Uniform Firearms Act and read it thoroughly.
