Help with Colt 1911 models
I’m looking for a colt 1911. Trying to decide which one I would like to buy. So many options and models that I’m not familiar with. I’m not interested in any of the high end custom jobs. Budget less than $1,000
Just want a nice reliable shooter that’s easy on the eyes. I like the standard blued finish. But don’t know much about the government, series 70, 80, etc. I’m sure there some 1911 gurus in here that could give me some input and help choosing.

Does it have to be a Colt? What features are you looking for?

Re: Help with Colt 1911 models
I have to agree with WillyK, a few years back I got a notion that I needed a Colt 1911. I wanted to spend as little as possible on something I would enjoy. I chose the Colt Competition 1911 in stainless similar to this https://gun.deals/product/colt-mfg-1...o-grip-92999-0 It worked out well for me, I'm sure you wouls be satisfied with the blued version that is mentioned by the poster above.

Re: Help with Colt 1911 models
This is actually one I was leaning towards. Didn*t know if I would be better off purchasing this new one. Or finding a nice used 1970*s era model 70

Re: Help with Colt 1911 models
Used to be that most used guns were good to go. Since the advent of the AR many seem to think that all guns are a version of Tinker Toys and any one can just plug and play.
I would only buy a used 1911 that I can fire to make sure that it is not some wanna be gunsmiths nightmare failure. We have had good luck with NEW Armscor Rock Island basic pistols and they tend to not be too pricey.
GOOD LUCK and enjoy your journey.
Above message is the thoughts of an 80+ yr. old who has been shooting the 1911 for about 60 plus years and is totally biased in her favor. Please remember that this message is free and worth every penny you paid for it.Courage is being scared to death--but saddling up any way. John Wayne
