Mags
Ok guys, forgive my ignorance...
Will a mag designed for the M-16 fit an AR-15?
Any drawbacks? Any major differences?
Thanks!~ Luke... Come to the dark side... We have cookies! ~

Re: Mags
Yes they will.
I'm fairly new to the AR scene, so I won't pretend to know which brands are better than others.
I've been pleased with my Magpul Pmags, and I hear nothing but good things about them from others.
I'll let the experts chime in now...I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Mags
as EM said the mags will fit
the only difference in the lower reciver between the AR15 and M16
is the M16 has a auto sear in it
now most newer lowers are what they call high shelf lowers meaning the area behind where the trigger assembly goes is to high to add a auto sear and would require milling to do so
some companies lowers are out of spec so now and the youll run into a lower where Pmags will either be very tight or wont fit at all into the magwell

Re: Mags
A guy I work with has DPMS that only fits their mags. (so he says). He just gave me 1 20 and 5 30 rd GI surplus mags that were too tight for his lower. I am going to let him try one of my Poly 20rd mags and a surplus 30 rd with a different color follower to see if they fit for trade.
Don't hold your breath, they're exactly the same except for the color of the follower. It looks like I may end up with a total of 1 20 rd, 7 30 rd, and 2 40 rd mags for the price of 500 pieces of polished, decapped and decrimped brass plus some personal reloading instruction.

Re: Mags
I have a DPMS carbine everything fits with out a problem. GI overruns Magpul Pmags I have not found anything that would not fit or feed.
Grizz
I like the Magpul PmagsI always stressed to my son"one shot one kill that was all that is needed". When He came home from Marine Corp Boot camp He was telling me about the Marines stressing "ONE SHOT ONE KILL" He looks at me and the light bulb went on Dad was now a whole lot smarter than he was 13 weeks ago.

Re: Mags
The original M16 magazine was adopted by NATO's STANAG standardization agreement to be the standard 5.56 magazine. As such it has been adopted for use by:
Beretta AR-70/90 (the first-generation AR-70/223 used a proprietary magazine)
FN FS-2000
Galil 223, with adaptor (non-adapted rifles use proprietary, more AK-like Galil magazines)
Kel-Tec SU-16 family
Remington 7600 (a pump-action rifle)
Robinson Arms M96
FAMAS G2 (G1 used proprietary mags)
SCAR Light (5.56)
and I am sure there are a bunch I am missing.
