    Default Sick deer

I've seen two deer in the last 2 weeks that appear to be sick in a way I've never seen. Both appear to be young, this-year's does. 1st deer, I saw it standing along the road looking somewhat listless and another larger doe (I assume it's mother) was licking its ass end. Later that day I saw the same deer and it was again just standing around the same area looking listless and its entire rear looked very wet. Next day, I saw it near the same location bedded down and it was there again still bedded a few hours later when I came back. Next morning, my wife went to work early and when she came home she said there was a dead deer right next to road down there - it was the same deer, not hit by car. Just dead.

This morning running down the road, I saw a second deer (also looks small and young) that was standing near the road (different road but within a half mile of the 1st one as crow flies) and also looked very listless - just didn't look right. I stopped and got out and it just stood there until I got within maybe 25 yards and then ran, and I could see that it also looked like its whole ass end was dark and wet. Almost like these deer have diarrhea or something. Going to keep my eye out now to see if I spot this one dead as well.

Anyone ever see or read about something like this?

I read that thread. The symptoms described do not seem to match up with what I'm seeing; they don't look swollen or salivating or anything. Seems like these two, the problem is at the other end which I would think might mean some type of intestinal issue but who knows. On the other hand, both these deer are near wet/swampy areas, which was mentioned in the article.

Someone down the road got rid of the first one (the old farmer there feeds them; they're (no shit) right up on his front porch looking in the door waiting for corn. I assume he just moved it with a loader and dumped it. If I find this second one dead down the road, I'm calling the game commission and hopefully maybe they can get out here fast enough to test it before coyotes or whatever get it.

I would call the game commission, it may be of interest to them.

I don't see how - he definitely didn't bring enough for everyone.

Deer roam freely on the campus where I work... they're about half-tame with limited fear of humans.

Over the years I've seen a few in distress, covered in mange looking like zombies. I guess when the time comes they find a place to bed down and check out.

Reading all that kind of kills what's left of my waning desire to hunt deer. :-(
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.
