Default Game Commission determines cause of death of up to 40 deer found dead near game lands

😲 The Pennsylvania Game Commission has determined the cause of death of dozens of deer found dead around Sept. 8 in Crawford County.

The commission said that 30 to 40 deer found dead in the vicinity of State Game Lands 214 in North Shenango and Sadsbury townships, succumbed to hemorrhagic disease.

“Hemorrhagic disease affects wild cervids and is caused by viruses — either epizootic hemorrhagic disease virus or bluetongue virus — that are spread by biting midges,” the Game Commission said.

When this is over do we have a remaining, disease resistant herd?

They should all wear masks, just in case.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

On a related note, an article in last week's Lancaster Farming on deer farmers looking to use genetics to breed out chronic wasting disease (CWD) . Ironic since the first case in PA was at a deer farm.
