As others have mentioned, H&K never made their own. They imported Benellis under their name, and Franchi made the H&K 512 for them. They also had a prototype select fire bullpup shotgun called the CAWS.

None of the issues led to a stovepipe. Had a broken extractor and firing pin on my USP40. The gun had less than 2k rounds through it. My wife's P226 had 20k rounds through it before she wore out the recoil spring and has had no other problems. Two of my M&Ps have 5k+ rounds through them with no problems. Also replaced the springs in all of my H&K mags with Wolff springs after the stock springs started to lose their springiness. Not saying H&K is bad (though they still hate you and me and all other non-LE/Military customers), but every manufacturer has a dud once in a while.

How do you guys keep track of how many rounds have been through your guns? I don't keep track and don't have a clue. Well...except that I've only shot one box of ammo in my whole life.

It's an estimation based on number of rounds shot in competition each year, plus an annual allotment of practice ammo. Also, I try to run at least 500-1k rounds through any new gun. We used to shoot multiple competitions a month back in the day. My wife ran her Sig for years putting 500-1k rounds a month through it. Then she got her first M&P and that sort of took over as her main comp pistol.
