    SLINGS!

    What works for you?
Doesn't matter what type of gun - tactical, hunting, whatever.

There are so many options these days that it can get confusing for anyone looking for their first sling - or even just another sling.
It seems like every time I think I've found the ideal sling, another one comes along that I hadn't known about, or has features I didn't know were available.

My posts here will likely be mostly AR15 related, but I do have a few traditional rifles that I am looking to outfit with slings, so maybe I'll learn a thing or two?

I'll start with my most recent purchase.

Specter Gear Recon two point sling
More specifically, the M-4A1 With Magpul Collapsible Stock
    Recon 2 Point Sling

They offer many variations that are specific to certain guns, stocks, and mounting methods.
They sell 3 different models of two point slings - each with many different versions to meet your needs.

    From the product description:

This sling is designed to fit collapsible stock M-4A1 carbines equipped with a side mounted front sling swivel.
    These slings feature:

    • Comfortable 1.5" Type 17337 webbing across the shoulder area
    • Lightweight, but highly durable 1" Mil-W-43668 adjuster strap
    • Quiet friction lock polymer adjuster buckle with 1" wide webbing handle
    • Emergency release buckle
    • Provided with a wrap around rear adapter.

Note: The rear adapter for this sling is designed to fit Magpul collapsible stocks with a vertically oriented sling attachment slot. No front adapter is provided. You must have some form of side mounted front sling swivel for this sling to mount to.

    MADE IN USA!!!

My initial thoughts are all positive.
I chose this particular sling for it's wider 1.5" shoulder strap to see if it would work better on a heavier rifle. It does.
I chose this model over the other two for it's thinner sling material because I dislike heavy, thick, bulky slings. It's just what I wanted.
I wanted a quick adjust tab that requires one to simply pull in the direction you want it to go without any other motions as found on some other slings. It meets that requirement perfectly.
I wanted a sling that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. This is currently on sale for $22.46 (reg $29.95) and no extra charge for Multicam!

I have a few rifles with A1 fixed stocks that I attached Specter Gear Butt Stock Mag Pouches to. These give me the option to carry a spare mag on the rifle as well as providing a SIDE sling mount for the rear.
This specific model was a perfect match for my sling mounting methods - I added a GG&G QD sling mount to the hand guard and the sling loops directly to the side mount loop of the mag pouch. Perfect.

Ignore the excess sling material that extends out of the frame. Once I am 100% satisfied that I have it set up to the size I want, I will cut and melt the end and tuck it under the buckle.
I'm guessing these should work for a bigger person and I think they mentioned just that in one of the product vids I watched.

Rear 1" wide portion attached to butt stock mag pouch sling loop.
The sling then sizes up to 1.5" wide for more comfort over the shoulder area.

Pic shows the quick release buckle as well as the portion that transitions from 1.5" down to 1" wide for the rest of the (forward portion) sling.

The quick adjust tab is made of folded over sling material and sewn together, creating a semi-rigid tab to pull.

Grasp and pull back to increase the slack...

Simply pull in the opposite direction to snug it up.
    Easy peasy.

Pics to show the thickness of the sling material.

I worried that at such a low price point, that the material would be "hard" and "sharp" on the edges, but it's actually pretty nice. Very flexible.

Another sling that I've been very happy with is the Frank Proctor sling.

I wanted something "minimalist" and that's exactly what you get - a simple, lightweight sling, with a simple method of attachment.
Saving a bunch of money by not needing to purchase additional mounting hardware was a huge bonus.
The Proctor sling has paracord loops sewn into the ends, allowing you to attach it in any number of ways.

Note to snoopy fedz: This is an old photo. The brace was removed long ago, you fucking pricks.

There are no "pull tabs" for adjustment - you pinch the sides of the front tri-glide (note the grippy serrations on the sides), and slide it forward or back to adjust the sling length.
It's not as fast as a tactical sling with quick adjust tab, but I guess if you practice, it could be.

To stow the sling, I put a ranger band onto the brace, pulled the sling back, wrapping it around the end, then tucking the end under the ranger band on the ejection port side. Just pull the sling and it comes right out for use.

On his website, he shows another technique for stowing this sling by tucking the end through a tri glide.
Looks like it snugs it up nice and tight. I'll have to try that.

I have the same sling on my 9mm carbine. It's a great option when you want a sling, but without all the bulk and complexity of a "combat" sling.

Israeli IDF rifle sling. Since all members of the IDF are required to carry their rifle at all times 24/7 they are designed for comfortable long term carry but rugged enough for military use. With the wide webbing you can slide the rifle behind you and barely notice it but when needed it can quickly be shifted to the front and and fired in one motion. Look up the IDF sling method and they have ways of attaching this sling to anything from an M-16 to a Galil to an Uzi (I have mine on an M1 carbine). They were cheap, mil spec and shipped from Israel when I go mine but make sure it is actual mil spec sling and not some knockoff.

I would get my rifle out and take a pic of my backside but this pic will have to do for now.

Edgar Sherman Design slings are my new go-to for minimalist slings - when I don't REALLY need minimalist.
Not quite as minimalist as the Frank Proctor sling, but packed with quality and features.

I'll be posting about the ESD sling as well. Photos need uploaded...
