According to the Army it is not at Machine Gun. It is currently and for about a decade and a half been classified as a Automatic Rifle.

Thus, it can be issued to medics and other medical personal, because it is not a machine gun.

    Right.
I*m sure you*re right and that*s doctrine. I was not in the military when I was issued one. I was issued a brand new short barreled model and scolded never to fire it unless there was a fire fight of some kind.

It came to me with one of those horrible Eotech optics which I quickly removed. I wasn*t even allowed to zero the damn thing. It was heavy as fuck with the 200 round box.

I qualified with one several times. Although I brought it to the range, I was told to put it up and qualify with the *range guns* so as to avoid firing my brand new one. The *range guns* weren*t in particularly bad condition or un-maintained. And yet I frequently had to lift the cover and clear malfunctions to the point I had difficulty qualifying a gun that*s already not a piece of cake to qualify with.

The time I needed it, I*m fortunate it was below in the truck and I was in the turret with a 240B. I*m a gun guy too, not your garden variety window licker/shooter. I really wanted to like the damn things. The truth is unless they*re heavily maintained and used gently, they suck. I*d rather have an M60 ffs.
