Default So You Wanna Build a 7.62x39 AR15?

Here's a pretty well laid out bit of helpful info, presented in a non-intimidating manner, that covers literally everything I could have thought of if someone were to ask for my input on this topic.

The only part I may not have thought to mention is the "extractor" info, which I just started delving into recently.
As I was watching, I said "Wolff Extra Power Hammer Spring!", thinking he neglected to cover that, but no, he added that in a bit later.

    Good info. Love the format.

I love being an enabler with the "Deals" thread and with two x39 builds under my belt, I'm more than happy to answer any questions anyone may have if they ever thought about it, but didn't know where to start.
I don't claim to be an expert, but I certainly must have learned "something" if the guy in the video covered everything I would have said.

Even if you don't want a x39 AR, go build one you DO want!

Seems everyone agrees with my assessment that Duramag (C-Products Defense) is the bestest and the 28 rounders are the bestest of the bestest.

Skip to 6:50 since he wastes everyone's time talking first about a Unimag, which even at the time of filing, is not even being made any more.

Nice thread and video in the OP; but I didn't watch it all.

If the video producer didn't mention it, I would add the purchase of a Black Rifle Arms Enhanced 7.62x39 firing pin:

    https://www.blackriflearms.com/AR-15...g-Pin_p_9.html

It's a skosh longer than a standard AR firing pin, and works very well on Russian/Ukrainian ammo with hard/thick primer cups but does not cause blowouts of primer cups on standard primers, in my experience. With the BRA Enhanced FP, you don't need the extra power hammer spring, again in my experience.

Yes, he mentions an enhanced firing pin. That's pretty much the number one thing needed. If you get random light strikes, just get an enhanced firing pin and start there - it's probably all you need to do.
He mentions that brand as well.

Of the three guns I own, one (the first build) benefitted from the extra power hammer spring in addition to the enhanced firing pin, so I just used an extra power hammer spring in the others as well.

    Yep.
You can't expect rounds with tapered cases to fit in the same shape mag as a skinny, narrow, 5.56 round does.
