I lived in ACNJ in the mid 1970's and I do remember the stop sign stickers they'd put on, I had one. You drove thru a long garage while passing thru various checkpoints and at the end you got a sticker, good or bad. I sort of remember thinking it was odd that you could keep driving the car if it failed. I've lived in PA all but those 3 years in the 70's.

I haven't had to worry about such a thing in a long time either, even my junkers I kept up to snuff.
I vaguely remember NJ having failed stickers way back in the day. Like before I was old enough to drive.

Probably less. The 23/24's seem to be of the less sticky variety, that unstick themselves and start to curl up.

And they just went up two bucks.

They've been that way for a long time now.

Every now and then there's a batch that don't stick. That seemed to start with the Wolfenstein administration.

The last few years, they seemed to stick ok as long as you removed all the old sticker schmutz.

The 2022 stickers on both our vehicles right now are sticking better
corner-to-corner than any we've had since we moved to PA in 2005.

    We go again in October.

Removing all the old sticker glue and paper with glass cleaner, and putting them on straight is one of my OCD pet peeves.

Yeah, that would bug me too. So far it hasn't been an issue.
Even Jiffy Lube got it right (I know. I was desperate)
