    Default Specter Gear

Not a "shop", but an online vendor.
If this is not the appropriate place for it, feel free to move.

They've been making slings and other accessories since September 2000.

I've looked at their stuff for many years, but never bought any of their slings - until now.
They have so many options that it can get a little overwhelming - everything from basic slings, to firearm specific setups.

I'm still finalizing my order, but I was so impressed with the help I got, I wanted to share.
After watching some of their videos explaining the various products, I settled on what I thought was what I needed, but rather than end up making the wrong choice, I reached out for some help.

My email to them - sent Saturday at 7:00pm:

    Hi.

I THINK I have this narrowed down to the proper product, but I'd like to run this by someone to be sure.
I have three AR15s with fixed A1 stocks.
Each of them is outfitted with your Specter Gear Buttstock Magazine Pouch to carry a spare magazine, and to provide a rear sling attachment point on the side.

For front sling mounts, I have used paracord run through the handguard slots to create a snug loop through which I run the end of my sling.

I'm looking to change out slings and want to try your Recon sling on the heaviest of the three. If this works out, I'll order the Raptor for the other two - and possibly for other rifles as well.

I have the "M-4A1 with Magpul Collapsible Stock" Recon sling in my shopping cart.

I'm going to try to attach a photo of one of the rifles.
Is this sling the best option for said rifle using the same attachment methods pictured?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Their reply - sent Sunday at 11:00pm - from one of the two co-owners:

    Hi Emptymag,

Thank you for your continued interest in Specter Gear!

Your email and attached pic made sense to me, and the #1109 Recon sling that you sent the link to will attach well to that BMP, and then to the paracord loop that you ran through your handguard slots. The only caveat that I would throw out there is that nylon paracord does melt if exposed to enough heat. If you only run a few rounds through those rifles at a time, then the heat generated will likely be so low as to not be a problem. If you are shooting an extended course of fire, or doing mag dumps, then that barrel will get hot enough to melt the cord. A better option that paracord, in my opinion, is a side mounted sling swivel at the front. For KeyMod handguards like the ones in the pic that you sent, a great option is the GG&G KeyMod Sling Mount: https://www.gggaz.com/keymod-sling-m...ck-detach.html We don't sell the KeyMod version of this, but do sell the MLOK and rail mounted versions from GG&G. GG&G has the KeyMod version available on their site. GG&G makes great mounting hardware, here in the USA, and they're good people too.

Hope this helps! Stay safe. Thank you.

    Regards,

    Jeff

Photo I sent them. I plan to replace this sling with a Specter Gear sling.
They have GREAT prices on slings when on sale.
I have several of the 30 rd Buttstock Mag Pouches and the quality is top notch - they are a supplier of said product to the US military.

I finally got around to ordering a sling yesterday (Monday) - Labor Day.
By 4:45 pm Tuesday I had a "Your order has shipped" email from Specter Gear as well as a Click-N-Ship notification from the USPS.

    So far, so good.

I'm going to hook up my sling tomorrow.

They have three types. Gets a little confusing, but they do have several videos that explain them pretty well.

I got the Recon. Seems to be of good quality.

I've listed my descriptions in order seen (top to bottom) in vid below

    Recon
Wide 1.5" shoulder area, but the entire sling is a thinner, lighter material.
    Same adjustment as the Raptor.

    Raptor
Narrower 1.25" wide. It has a tab that can be grabbed and moved forward or back with no additional steps.

    Raider (oldest model)
Has 1.5" shoulder area and a traditionally thicker sling material
I THINK they have an updated adjustment tab now, or it's optional, but the original required a pull "forward" a smidge before you could pull it back.

This vid goes over the differences

I just got it, so all I can give are first impressions, but they are favorable.
