Shouldn*t matter at all how much ammo he bought. But makes me wonder what else he shared with the dealer, and is the dealer tied in with ATF beyond just having their license.

Almost 4 years for the SBR, people committing serious crimes against other humans get less.

"Large" ammo purchases ... I'll take that with a grain of salt. A month or two ago there was a news article that said this guy's house was raided and they found a "large" quantity of ammo - over 400 rds. Heck, I consider 5k rds per caliber to be well within the norm - maybe more if there have been some really good sales.

It's not excessive if you can carry it to your vehicle in one trip.

Hell, it's not excessive if you can fit it into your vehicle without the springs bottoming out.

You know who doesn't panic every time they predict heavy snow? People who buy stuff they know they'll use, in bulk. If you'll run out of food if you can't go shopping within the next week, then your life skills suck.

Ammo from WW II will still work, I think we can buy for the next 10 years without it being weird.

BTW, the people who say that preppers are paranoid, spend billions of our tax dollars on "secret" bunkers that are reserved for the people who screwed up so badly that the country was incinerated by nukes. Maybe we'd be safer if every member of the Senate and their families had to shelter inside a sports arena in times of international tensions, so that they get bombed first if they can't keep us safe.

The situation certainly reinforces the idea that one shouldn't share with unknown entities questionably illegal things one may be doing, because you don't know who is trustworthy.

I always joke with the Mrs. that I shop like a Doomsday prepper. We're still using laundry detergent from 2017 and won't need to buy more until 2025.

Nothing illegal about buying bulk ammo

Agreed, but they did find an unregistered SBR. I'm thinking he gave away some info he should have kept to himself.

Possibly. Or the overreaching government used the bulk ammo purchase to label him a threat

That might make sense if there were multiple similar stories. There's plenty of people who have purchased many thousands of rounds who haven't been targeted by the ATF.
