Not all dealers are that way. And I have never seen a dealer get upset that someone didn*t take their offer. That being said, not many people realize how expensive it is to be a gun dealer.

Ever try that with the promoter of the gun show? How much did he take off of your admission fee?

OTOH, if you offer a dealer $850 for something marked $1000, prepare for a beat down.

Not many people realize how expensive it is to be in any business. They see that 'profit margin' as clear profit and are clueless that yous start $1000s in the hole out the gate and that has to be covered before you can even buy yourself a hot dog for lunch.

Probably because some guy wants to sell his $500 for $500 to a dealer because they get butthurt at a realistic offer. See where this is going?

I do. And I understand the cost of conducting business. There are jerks on both the buying and selling side. I was making a blanket statement, which isn't really fair. Some dealers offer fair prices for buying and selling, some don't. Same for sellers.

The one that does sometimes get me is that a dealer won't knock off like 2% for a cash sale, like he would rather pay the 3-4% CC fee. It's happened to me more than once.

LOL, I will one up you on this. I was willing to spend $15,000 on two rifles from a dealer here in PA and was offering him cash and I would drive two hours each way to pick them up. He had these listed on gunbroker and they had not sold at the price of $15,000 and free shipping, for quite a long time. He replied back that he would do a 1% discount on cash but requires me to give him a deposit via card. I*m like, you realize it will cost you more than that to pay the fee on $15,000 card transaction, box them up, and ship them to me. He replied later and said he would sicount a couple hundred dollars and charge me tax (I*m tax exempt). I saw what he was trying to do so I didn*t bother responding.

How does one become tax exempt, especially on GB?

Probably by being a dealer. Tax is only paid at the final sale by the end user.

Tax exemption is basically being a business. It means that I don*t pay the sales tax but i am required to collect it if i sell something. If another dealers buys from me, he would be tax exempt and the requirement would be for him to collect sales tax when said item is sold.
