    Default S&W M&P22 Magnum in .22 WMR

Smith and Wesson has released a 30rnd M&P in .22 WMR. Looks like it uses the same TEMPO barrel system as their new 5.7x28 pistol. In fact, it kinda looks like they re-chambered the 5.7 pistol to .22 Mag.

Looks interesting and 30 rounds has its appeal. but how does .22 mag compare to 5.7 ballisticaly? Is it more available in the market?

In comparable barrel lengths, 5.7x28 is faster, more powerful, and ballistically more coefficient. It's also centerfire, so more reliable than rimfire .22 WMR. 5.7x28mm is still expensive, though not hard to come by. With PSA/AAC offering their own 5.7 ammo, and Fiocchi selling bulk packs of rounds that are comparable or better to SS197 in performance, 5.7 owners have a lot more to choose from.

All that being said, I'll probably pickup one of the M&P 22Mag pistols down the road when they start showing up on the used market. I don't need to spend $500-600 on a novelty pistol right now.

Hey Ronin! Thanks for the reply! The only firearm I'm in the market for right now is a .22LR Kit Gun. Other than that acquiring more just isn't in my wanted list.

Anytime! You looking for a revolver or a pistol? The Ruger LCRx in .22LR is a good one. I love my Kel-Tec P17. It would make a good Kit Gun.

This reviewer had FTF issues with his T&E gun.

Revolver yes but this will be for me and as a trainer for wife and daughter. J frame fits their hands nicely!
