Not really. The pins go in the side and hold the trigger in place. If one walks out of it's hole, the trigger/hammer would likely fail to operate.

If the FP is jammed and the bolt is short-stroking, the gun could repeatedly slam-fire even without a hammer engaging at all.

Walking pins are easy to diagnose. Check occasionally and make sure they are flush.

I don't understand why this happens only when you drop the bolt and not while you are shooting it. The bolt moves back further when cycling so you would expect it to hit harder than when you drop the mag release.

That could just be a coincidence that it only happens when using the bolt hold open to release the bolt.

Try the same lot of ammo in another AR15 rifle.

If you google "AR15 slam fire" it appears you can spend the rest of your day reading up on this topic on various forums.

Trigger pins can walk out if the hammer spring is out of spec under powered. And that can absolutely cause double firing.
Ar was designed around military primers with a very specific hardness. Ppu doesn*t have the most sterling reputation for ammo quality. That said, anybody can turn out a bad batch. I*m thinking ammo related.

Proud primers in ammo maybe, especially with boxer primers are a big danger.

I used Ballistol to clean and lubricate parts.
    This maybe.
If you use this too liberally and inadvertently have any of it in the FP channel, it will cause hang fires. Especially if that DD has heavier springs. Small chips of brass with accumulated carbon and some dirtier than usual PPU ammo would be the likely culprit IMO. I like PPU brass ammo and haven't had any issues with it other than it can be a bit dirtier than USA manufactured brands and the brass is a bit more subject to dents/dings if ejecting on concrete surfaces.
