I've never understood the appeal of putting a suppressor on a 5.56 gun, especially if you're not going to shoot subsonic rounds. Though I see nothing great about subsonic 5.56. Subsonic .300BLK beats it in nearly every metric.

Works great on anything over 16". Other than that it's useless.

A pinned and welded flash hider does exactly the same as a bare muzzle when it comes to increasing velocity.

Still not hearing safe, so pointless regardless of the barrel length. And before anyone brings it up - just because your ears aren't ringing doesn't mean you're not damaging your hearing.

After 18 years in swat*. I would say it is not pointless*. If you touch off a 5.56 in the standard shitty 12x12ish trailer/apt room*.
Everyone on your stack without earpro will be deaf or bell rung*. Even a bad El Cheapo can, is a Huge plus in that environment*

A Templar is truly a fearless knight, and secure on every side, for his soul is protected by the armor of faith, just as his body is protected by the armor of steel.
Big whoop, I'm spooning a Barret .50 Cal...... I could like kill a building.....

Your ears will be ringing if you fire off a suppressed 5.56 with supersonic ammo inside a house. It's still loud as fuck and can damage your hearing without earpro.

Yup*. No doubt*. But I would say* it is an *economy of scale*, I have fired short barreled M-4*s without earpro so many times*.
(Mostly by accident, forgetting earpro* not ND*s! ), that my favorite word is now *what?*. Giving the choice, I would rather *listen*, to a suppressed 5.56 even a shitty one, then one without*.

    joining the fun...
    i think this is exactly where 9mm & 45acp PCCs have a use/ value
they have acceptable ballistics inside 100yds (even better in that shitty 12x12 room/ trailer) and can be made hearing-safe w a suppressor and standard 45acp ammo or 147gr and up 9mm ammo

if you need to be quiet and/or are engaging indoors (like SD) or inside 50yds, PCC suppressed
if outside and it's longer shot, use the long-gun with ear-pro.
if you need both at the same time, then 300BLK suppressed with different ammo mags (?) - not sure, pricing of it seems prohibitive which would greatly limit regular training (which is most important).

i do submit that this ignores concerns about those being engaged wearing armor but... it's not a video game, cant carry 5 different loadouts around... and armor doesnt cover everything

get good with one and run it

IDK, my neighbor served 5 years in blackwater, he says you really don't hear it when you are shooting.
Adrenalin takes over when you are in a life or death situation.
