Default Re: Carry gun chambered all the time?

I never unchamber a round. No kids in the house, the only two who have the gun safes combinations are me and my son. Carry gun goes into one of the safes condition one. Comes out that way and back in the holster. I agree bullet setback is an underappreciated safety issue.

When I unchamber a round for gun cleaning, I empty the magazine in order and line up the rounds on a table away from the cleaning area (no ammo in the cleaning area). When I reload the round from the bottom of the mag goes in last. So last #1 becomes #2, last #2 becomes #3, etcetera. Seems like a bit OCD, but since my carry guns are always in condition one, it makes sense to me. I have range guns, but I shoot off my carry ammo and some practice rounds at least once a year, then reload with fresh ammo, so a round never gets re-chambered.

Many studies have shown modern magazine springs do not deteriorate from constantly being loaded. Even Jeff Cooper had come to that conclusion many years ago.

All guns are loaded. At night, carry gun in the holster goes in the safe and nightstand gun in holster comes out.

I'm also with the majority/consensus on this. I always check the chambered loaded round if ejecting after the mag is out for any bullet movement but ejecting a round is very far and few between.
I always got a kick out of westerns from decades ago that show the bad or good guy with the drop on someone saying something to the effect "drop the gun" or "hands up". The other guy says "you aint' got the guts to shoot". And at that point, the guy with the gun pulls the hammer back on his SAA or racks the lever on his rifle to show he really means business.
If you're going to carry, you carry Condition 1. Period. If you're uncomfortable with your carry gun doing so, you need to upgrade.
Engineers make things idiot proof! Evolution makes better idiots!

Me too. And now I'm thinking it might be strange as my carry gun
is not my only gun. All our handguns are same caliber too.

OK, so now this thread has me thinking about some things. Like adding
a light to something that could become a nightstand gun.

hmm... A man I worked for years ago would say "these are the kinds of
    problems you *want* to have.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

My night stand gun has a Streamlight on it, my EDC has none.

Part of my EDC is a pocket flashlight which I probably use more frequently than my keys and pocket knife combined. There is also a flashlight that lives on my nightstand. It just seems like every time I look into a gun-mount light it is either too long, or $300.

EDIT: I should add that only one of my handguns will accommodate a light.
Even my AR needs a new (different) hand guard before I can mount a light.

My nightstand gun has a laser. Flashlight on the nightstand.

I have a small bright flashlight that I EDC and use it more often than anything else I carry.
