    i dont have all those tools but im willing to work the field and hunt for food.

    The only real shortcoming I have is my machines are all either diesel or gas, including the generator. This is why I was trying to focus on where solar could get me. But I didn't want a grid tie system unless I could understand how to do off-grid as well.

    The only way you're doing that is with batteries. In that case, you best learn to live on minimal electricity and get a battery pack setup to cover you. I don't think you can do that cheaply.
