With proper training and practice, carrying in a holster round in the chamber or not is an issue that was solved a long time ago.
100% - I'd argue that the people posting that say sometimes they carry with a round and sometimes not or change things up are more likely to end up having a negligence discharge than someone the just loads their gun and leaves it in the holster.

My gun stays in my holster 24/7/365, it's only pulled out for range practice or every couple of months to remove lint where it then goes back into the holster cocked and locked.

My trick is to avoid places where I need to chamber a round as much as possible. ATM and bumps in the night out in the yard, and a few other miscellaneous scenarios. So 95%+ time it is unchambered. It's a valid point you bring up, and I could definitely see that happening if someone splits it more 50/50 between chambered and unchambered.

    This makes zero sense whatsoever.

Why not have no guns at all and only buy one if you are going to go someplace you think you may need it?

No such place exists. You could be anywhere and shit could go down. And it can go down faster than you will have time to draw, chamber, and fire a round in self defense. See the video I posted earlier in this thread. Play the game with both an empty chamber and a "loaded" one (Snap Cap, not live ammo!) and see how you fare.

That's a pretty flippant comment/argument. I practice drawing and racking the slide at the range. I've also racked a slide outside of the range, although I did not have to use it, thankfully.

Yeah, it could, but I've weighed the chances of that happening as being much slimmer than me having a round in the chamber all the time. My crotch and/or my femoral artery.

I did actually watch the video. My opinion is if someone gets the drop on you, they've got the drop on you regardless of whether you have a round in the chamber or not. You're in deep crap either way. Action is faster than reaction, isn't that what he was saying?

While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

I'm glad that gun owners are different.

    Mostly.

It's never about who is right or who is wrong, it's about what an individual will practice.

I would agree with the use of the word "often", but...

I did a lot of weakhand & compresses car training last month. Learned some new approaches & things to practice on my own.

Interestingly, no one was starting with an empty chamber (unless designed-into the training as a malfunction!)…
Sorry - that wasn’t to mean I agree going with an empty chamber. I would never do this with pistols. Backpack SBR is different plan though.
