Mayor makes Aliquippa out to be a war zone like Iraq and Afghanistan.

In the 12 years for 2008 to 2020, there were 24 murders. Aliquippa averaged 2 murders per year.

The doctor cited CDC statistics stating guns are the highest cause of death for children.

    Baloney!

Those stats range from ages 1 to 19.

Thus, abortions are completely ignored, and 18-19 year-olds who are legal adults are part of the calculation. Nothing like including 18 and 19 year-old gangbangers in the calculation to pad the numbers!

It's pretty obvious that this hearing was designed to send a certain message. Don't count on their being any counter arguments - this is an all out push for more gun laws, not a debate.

This is how they inflate statistics, to build upon what you said - the vast majority of those under 18 are actually gang violence, the actual violence in which a firearm is used as the tool to perpetuate said violence is quite small. Now, when you put that up against the lives saved with the use of a firearm, the statistics aren't even comparable.

The following data are taken from The Educational Fund To Stop Gun Violence, which is now known as the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions.

    See:
    https://efsgv.org/state/pennsylvania/

According to the data for Pennsylvania for 2019, there were 1,541 gun deaths.

The breakdown of the gun deaths was 63% by suicide and 36% (548 deaths) by homicide.

According to the United States Census Bureau, in 2019, Pennsylvania had a population of 12.8 million people.

If the 548 gun deaths by homicide are divided by total population of 12.8 million, we find that the percentage of homicide by gun in Pennsylvania in 2019 is 0.0043%.

That is forty-three ten-thousandths of a percentage point.

For statistical comparison, there were 1,059 traffic fatalities in Pennsylvania in 2019.

    See:

    https://www.penndot.pa.gov/TravelInP...20to%201%2C129.

Yet, understandably, there is no push to restrain the use of vehicles, although vehicle use resulted in nearly twice as many deaths (traffic fatalities of 1,059) as homicide by gun (548).

The report from Johns Hopkins also notes that "young Black males are disproportionately impacted by firearm homicide. Black males aged 15-34 have a firearm homicide rate nearly 39 times higher than White males of the same age group. Note: Based on a five-year average (2015-2019)."

Left unsaid in the report is that gang and drug activity account for the bulk of these numbers (548 deaths).

The two PDFs attached to this e-mail are the Pennsylvania Annual Abortion Reports for 2019 and 2020 from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

In 2019, there were 31,018 abortions performed in Pennsylvania, and in 2020, there were 32,123 abortions performed in Pennsylvania.

Thus, in 2019, abortion deaths (31,018) were 56.6 times the number of gun deaths by homicide (548)!
