How much ammo should you have....
... on hand in 2023?
Okay I did a search and found a few threads with this same question, but all of them were from over 9 yrs ago.
So I decided to start this one to refresh the discussion and bring it into the 2020's.
I went thru all my ammo a few days ago and took count of it. I use 8 different calibers for the firearms I own.
I have been trying to stock pile some extra lately to have in case the SHTF, for example we have more bank failures and the US Dollar goes belly up & is worthless.
My thinking is the surplus rounds can be used as "currency" to buy other provisions. And of course defend my life & property.
So what's everyone's thoughts on how many rounds you should have on hand for each caliber in this day and age?

Re: How much ammo should you have....
It depends on what it*s for. 338lp i only have a few hundred as it*s limited application, 9mm I have thousands as it fits a lot of guns and is very versatile. 5.7x28 I have thousands because it*s better than 9mm. 30-06 in thousands because truck mounted m1919. And 5.56 in the thousands because ar15. And tens of thousands of .22 because why not it*s cheap.

There are so many variables, but I'll estimate about 5000 pistol rounds per caliber and 10,000 rifle rounds per caliber that you expect to be your primary tools. 2500-5000 .22 rimfire. Maybe another 1000-2000 for backup calibers.

As much as you can sensibly afford.
