Replace BCG in PSA upper?
If you replace BCG in a PSA upper (AR 15) with DD BCG, would that be a nice upgrade? DD complete upper is too expensive. I was wondering if premium BCG would make a difference in an entry level upper?

What difference in performance are you hoping to achieve with a BCG upgrade?

Re: Replace BCG in PSA upper?
Have you had any issues with reliability? I don't see how cold weather in PA is going to be an issue. What promise does DD make about their esoteric bolt in cold weather?
I'd personally provide good lubrication to the current BCG and move forward.

Re: Replace BCG in PSA upper?
Not likely to be an issue but you need to check headspace when changing bolts.
You are very unlikely to find any difference in performance. Except a *top tier* bolt assembly is less likely to break something.Crusader's local #556 South Central Asia chapter

Re: Replace BCG in PSA upper?
Material, heat treatment and quality control is what makes one bolt assembly better than another. The bolt, carrier and the small bits inside are all consumable items and can break.
The bolt assembly in particular is subject to considerable heat cycling and the items above are important to life and function.
Fwiw, psa bolt assemblies are usually pretty good. I*ve seen few failures over the years.
If your rifle doesn*t run well in cold weather, try cleaning it throughly, lubricating and re-shoot. ARs like to be clean but will run a long time filthy if properly lubricated.Crusader's local #556 South Central Asia chapter

Re: Replace BCG in PSA upper?
PSA bolts meet standards specified for, say.......USGI full auto bolts. DD supercedes the spec with, say better heat treating, stronger steel, etc. The fact is this, lets make an anvil out of strong steel and one out of the strongest steel known to man. You'll use that anvil how much during your ownership of it? Will you break it using it as it was intended to be used regardless of which anvil you own? Most likely not!
So to answer your question, the Daniel Defense bolt is an exceptional bolt at an exceptional price that is over-engineered and the PSA bolt meets or exceeds military specifications. (As in weapons that are fired constantly and in use in extreme conditions and temps).
Save your money!Engineers make things idiot proof! Evolution makes better idiots!
