Magpul MIAD is a waste of money...?
OK well I just finished off building my lower today. It is an old cast Essential Arms lower that I duracoated combat black. The Duracoat is nice, though I got some chipping around the trigger and hammer pin holes when I tapped those through. RRA lower parts kit. Geissele DMR trigger. Magpul CTR stock (Mil spec) with a mil spec extension and CAR spring/buffer tube from talon arms. Everything is going great until I break out the Magpul MIAD (black) with the plastic trigger guard front strap option. The damn thing just won't fit on, I try it every which way and finally figure out that for whatever reason the trigger guard that comes off of the front grip doesn't work with my lower. I do not have a space between the ears where the pin would go through, they are linked together. OK, fine, its plastic anyway, I would rather have the metal one. So I take it off and swap it for the front strap with finger grooves. Back on we go. Except, it doesn't sit flat against the curved surface on the rear of the lower. Adjustments continue and I figure out the only way it will fit flat against the curve is if it is angled back and separated from the upper flat surface, which then bends the safety spring at an angle and leaves me with a gap so that I can see a good portion of the spring.
Also, I have to say, it is not very comfortable.
I gave up and put on the RRA Hogue grip I ordered as a backup, which fits fine, everything seems to be OK otherwise. I have to adjust the trigger and the safety feels really tight, but otherwise we are good.
Whats the deal with a $50 grip not working? Send it back?Last edited by emsjeep; November 21st, 2008 at 02:46 AM.

If you are not going to use it, might as well send it back.

Then again it is an old cast lower. Who knows what the specs on that are. I personally would stick with newer forged lowers but hey, if it shoots, go for it!

my magpul miad fits on my AR fine. i don't use the trigger guard replacement, but i did put it on to check it out when i first got it.
perahps you got a defective one...or your lower is out of spec? maybe try contacting magpul and see if they have any ideas.
imho, the magpul miad is the best AR grip out there.

The hogue is definitely more comfortable for people who've tried both.
If you can't send it back post it in the for sale section, Im sure some people would jump at a reasonable price (including me).

I'll consider taking it off your hands. Give Magpul a call, they'll make it right if it is defective.

Yeah, I've seen dozen's of MIADs on guns...non had an issue.
Either your lower is out of spec...or you got a blem from Magpul. Either way, give them a call, describe what's going on, and they'll make it right. Magpul doesn't let many bad pieces of gear out of the door....and they stand behind their stuff.
Let us know what they tell you.

I was working with one rep who stopped responding so I sent an Re: to Tech Support, Sales and the General line. We sorted out my very strange order issue and are working ont he MIAD story. I hadn't heard anything bad about the MIAD so I was surprised when mine didn't work.
