Joanna McClinton named Pennsylvania House Speaker after Rozzi steps down

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Pennsylvania House Speaker Mark Rozzi (D-Berks) announced Tuesday that he will step down as Speaker after less than two months, paving the way for Democrat Majority Leader Joanna McClinton (D-Delaware/Philadelphia) to be the next speaker.

McClinton became the first female House Speaker in Pennsylvania history with her election on Tuesday on a party line vote.

They could have elected a republican for the two month interim between the swearing in of the new legislature and the recent special election, which gave the dems the majority, at which point the new dem majority would have elected a dem speaker. But yes, those two months could have been helpful, and 7 rinos decided to give it away.

My suspicion, and it*s merely an opinion, is that the Republicans knew they were going to end up with a democrat speaker one way or the other, so in the hopes of having a moderate in the position rather than a leftist kook some of them voted for a moderate hoping he would stay in the position after the special election results came in. Instead, the Democrats hornswoggled them and blocked Republicans from having the leadership for the two month interim, and then the moderate dutifully stepped down so they could install the kook leftist anyway.
