Default AR afficianados, name this area on an AR upper.

Last week there was a young guy on the bench next to me shooting his new off the shelf AR. After a very fast 2 boxes of ammo he wanted to take the rifle apart to run a bore snake through the bore. I told him he could do that without taking down the rifle but he wanted to do some other cleaning also.

The rifle was still tight and he was having trouble poppin the takedown pins. I keep a short piece of dowel and small hammer in my box from when my first AR was also tight. I got his AR apart and got my grease out and greased the pins and the holes in the "studs."

He was a good kid and we talked about ARs for a good while and he thanked me for my help. He also "guaranteed" me that the next time I see him he would have his own box of "range essentials."

I've been having an extended senior moment. I've always called that small area (that the 2 pins go through) the "stud." I don't think I've ever heard anyone call it anything.

Does what I call the takedown or pivot pin "stud" have another name - a correct name?? Google/Google image won't help me.

I was shooting some reloads and he offered me his brass. I talked him into keeping it - told him he might just use it again some day.

    Thanks in advance,
    fritz

    Hinge pin "bosses" or "eyes".

Ah yes, the "boss." I was incorrect. I did know that. I have heard it used, even recently. Like I said, "terminology creep." (I'm to young for senior moments.)

    Thanks man!
