Default Rifle scope selection advice needed

I am looking for guidance about buying a scope for my Henry Big Boy .44 Magnum lever rifle. The manufacturer, Henry Repeating Arms, makes an adaptor bracket that allows one to attach a scope. I can buy it directly from Henry R.A.C. for a small price.

I have less-than-perfect vision, and I want to shoot at 100 yards, but also at 17 yards, 25 yards, and 50 yards. I have found that using just one side of a 12 x 42 pair of binoculars, and closing my other eye, I can read road signs, like speed limit signs, from 100 yards away, and that’s pretty much all the magnification I need for the target shooting I will be doing. Would I get basically the same view through a rifle scope of similar magnification and size (for example, a scope of 12 x 40)? Or, is there something unique to rifle scope optics that means that you can not use binoculars to estimate the magnification needed for a rifle scope?

    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks

To be honest, I would not put a scope on this rifle. Neither the caliber or appearance warrants it.

I've got alot of shooting friends with vision problems and they use diffenent things from fiber optic sights to tritium replacement sights. I would not put a scope on it. I'd try the fiber optic- there cheaper for experimenting.

I'm just guessing but I would assume that the magnification would be similar though the field of view would likely be wider with the binocs. 12x on a 44 mag rifle is a lot of magnification for that round.
