Don't forget small game too... I think it'd be fun to try and hunt squirrel with a semi auto 22 pistol.

I would consider a 10mm for deer. I would love to be able to hunt squirrels with a Ruger MK series pistol. I have a couple and I would be as safe as if I was using my legal Single Six. The current rules don't make much sense, and I think it will be quite some time before we can legally hunt with a semiautomatic pistol here in PA.

To be honest, you stand a better chance of getting everyone to agree that there are only two genders.

    True statement.

Personally, I think rimfires for small game would be doable. From a compliance/enforcement perspective large game could be more problematic if you were to have a caliber restriction.

I have a 300 Black out AR Pistol that I think would be sufficient for deer. I'm sure there are some AR 308 Pistols that would work for
    bear. Just my 2Cnts.

I just don*t see why you need a semiautomatic anything to shoot a deers. Why next thing you know some yahoo will need a 30 shell banana clip.

I have more calibers than just my bolt guns. Don't know why I shouldn't be able to use them if the caliber is valid for the game. If you think the mag capacity is an issue they can easily limit that same as they do for bolt and pump guns.

If you shoot a deer and it's down, you go to it, and it's still alive, but suffering, it's completely reasonable to finish him off with a handgun between the eyes rather than have it suffer. And most handguns are semi-auto.
