Default Re: Setting up AR15 for home defense

Thanks for all the recommendations and insight! I appreciate it! I should have clarified initially that this isn’t necessarily my 1st option for home defense. I would use my .45 first and it is set up with a new top of the line tactic light. My 45 or a 12 gauge shotgun would be used before the AR. I just want to set the AR up for short range just in case. The AR is always with my in my truck as well for personal protection, and my guess is that the magnified scope would slow my response time down in a close combat situation whether I’m a truck or in a home defense situation.
    Thanks again

With proper ammo, an AR15 can be less concerning than a 12 ga shotgun in terms of over penetration for a house gun.

    Or so I'm told.

To demonstrate the effectiveness of firing an AR indoors for inside the home protection take your AR down to the indoor gun range that allows AR platforms, load five in the magazine and then take off your hearing protection. Ready, aim, fire all five rounds.

That makes as much sense as jumping over the rail on a cruise ship to see if the water is deep.

All appropriate love your way, milady, but I gotta agree with EM here. That's permanent damage territory...

Actually, MY point was "everyone KNOWS an AR15 fired in a home is gonna be loud as FUCK, and not at all pleasant, possibly even causing hearing loss."

Nobody needs to TRY it first.

If I'm shooting my AR inside my home, circumstances are pretty dire, and hearing loss on any scale is not a huge priority.
Clearly, others are more concerned with hearing loss than anything else, and that's OK.

If you’re settling up an AR for home defense first thing you need is a suppressor and still it’s going to be loud, but no where near as one without.

If I am shooting an AR inside my home, I'm doing pretty well. It means I beat the perp's ass well enough to take his gun and use it against him.

    Exactly my point.
On that day, you will give no fucks about your hearing. You will be much more concerned about surviving the next few minutes.
Give the "oh, I'll lose my hearing" whine a rest.

Use a pistol caliber carbine. More powerful than a pistol with slightly less sound. In addition, you got all the advantage of a rifle.
