How does one go about getting addicted to alcohol? I've been on some pretty good binges and never had any trouble not drinking when it came time to get back at it.

Some people are more susceptible to it than others. Kinda depends on the hard wiring of your brain to begin with. Addiction always starts out as a mental thing be it alcohol, drugs, gambling, etc. The physical part comes after using for a period of time (varies with the drug). Physical addiction to alcohol is dangerous, your body becomes so accustomed to it that it actually goes into withdrawal without it. It's actually changed your brain chemistry at this point to require it Someone physically addicted to alcohol can actually die if they just stop cold turkey. The systems will just shut down. It takes more than a bender for a week or two to get to that point. Your talking years of hard drinking.

Addiction has a bunch of causes from genetic, family history, trauma, how the body metabolizes or breaks down and eliminates foreign substances, peer pressure in young people, chronic stress, how the persons body handles the surge in dopamine.
Some people can use a heavy dose of opioids for a couple weeks then stop, others can become addicted in a matter of days.


In general when it comes to pot most of the burned out stoners I've had contact with started before the brain as fully developed and just found it necessary to continue.

Exactly, you know a boat load of "Stoners". I'm willing to bet money there are plenty of successful people you also know that use it recreationally that you'd never guess. These are the people that won't tell you they smoke, won't smoke around you and do it behind closed doors for recreation like having a cold beer after work.

Did you ever stop and think maybe these people don't tell you because they know you think it's bad? Why would they volunteer that information to you or openly do it around you knowing you don't like it?

It's not too hard to make an educated guess if someone is a pot smoker, on the weekends or otherwise. They tend to have a certain look and certainly the odor follows them around for a while. Modern pot does not smell like what we smoked in the 70's. It's far more pungent and penetrating.

I never understood that weed rule. So your Dr can put you tons of pain killers and that*s ok. You can drink as much as ya want, but if ya smoke a bowl you don*t deserve the right to self defense ???

How about linking some peer to peer reviews and studies and where they were done because as a schedule 1 drug very little research was done. Tell me it has no negative affect on a developing brains.
Even as of last year they haven't drawn any cut and dry conclusions and are still exploring the ECS.

Legalized pot will be taxed and it will fund children's education and help senior citizens like casinos and the lottery. Those taxes will not be used to make the government more powerful, they promised us that.

i can attest that it doesnt "follow them around for a while" the pot scent sticks to everything they have. after ive handled their shit i have to scrub to get the odor off. it lingers for like an hour if someone who's recently smoked travels through a room.
you can smell them if theyre a few cars up on the highway, you can smell it clinging to their belongings.
on the flip side, i know smokers who dont smell at all. maybe they just bathe more or smoke outside or something. vape maybe.
guess it is a difference of recreational vs habitual users.
