    Default Getting frustrated here

I have a 9mm EAA Witness... and it is a fantastic firearm. I've put about 500-1000 rounds thru it and it has jammed maybe once or twice. I'm having a serious problem with rust tho. My handguns are stored in 3x3x3 fireproof/waterproof safe with coins, cash and other valuables and documents. All of my handguns don't have ANY rust issues except the Witness. I really tore it apart one night and cleaned the barrel and most everything inside and that seemed to get rid of the rust. Now it's spreading like a disease and I have spotty areas on the rear of the grip, trigger guard and the frame just under the muzzle.

I know how to get rid of it, my problem is preventing it. I've tried using oil and scrubbing pads to rub it off. The gets rid of it, but it comes back. I've tried the selsia (sp?) packs in the safe... nothing.

My only thought is maybe my sweaty hands contribute to it. I do a basic oil and clean of the gun after each use, and store it open in the safe unloaded. I'd really hate to have to get rid of this gun, but it's getting to be that way and I'm frustrated. Any help would be appreciated.

    Remoil?

    Try Weaponshield, FP-10 or Militech.

I'm hoping and guessing these are rust cleaning and rust prevention solvents?

    They excel as protectants.

Ok cool, thanks... I'll probably go pick some up tomorrow, or is this an internet only commodity?

Depends on how well stocked your local gun shop is...

Would some sort of moisture obsorbent packets help as well? Sounds like you are trapping moisture in the safe. Not sure if that would help any but it couldn't hurt.

    VCI paper. (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor).

    Information here:
    http://www.branopac.de/doc/en/guard/...oduktblatt.pdf

I keep some everywhere I have guns, parts, tools or anything else that I want to keep free of rust. It seems to work well for me and I have a very good source for as much as I need. I've left guns in what would be considered some of the worst storage conditions possible, in cloth gun cases in my basement for months, but with some VCI paper in each one I haven't had a rust problem yet.

PM your mailing address to me and I'll send some for you to try.
I can't guarantee that it will solve your problem, but for the price (free) what have you got to loose?

    Disclaimer:
I don't know if it would have any negative effect on valuables such as gold or silver coins or jewelry. I would think that it should be safe, but I honestly don't know that for a fact, that's just my opinion.

I don't have a short temper, I just have a quick reaction to bullshit.

There is a group buy for the weapon shield.

I had heard that sweat can be tough on bluing. I also heard blood is also bad for the bluing. I also have a witness. I have not had any thing sinular to what talking about.

Dessicant packs placed inside gun cabinets, and maybe one of those electric golden rods to pull moisture away.

Where is this cabinet or safe located? If in a musty basement there's your problem. Get it out of there immediately.

Seems to me though that since none of your other guns are affected, I'm thinking it could be the gun itself. If made of some inferior metal and or inferior techniques were used to protect the steel while being made, then that is probably the problem. If so I doubt any measure you employ will totally remove rusting issues .
