Default 😎 Montana man spends his days shooting at birds that land on a toxic lake

The Berkeley pit started off as an open pit mine about 65 years ago before the water pumps were shut off in 1982.

Shutting off the pumps meant that groundwater began to seep in and created sulfuric acid that leached metals out of the rock.

The lake has become so acidic that if a bird lands there for more than a few hours it could be cooked from the inside out, Insider reported. So, some locals have gotten creative in helping protect the migrant birds that fly through there.

How many tons of baking soda would it take to neutralize the lake?

💡 Fill the lake with floating black balls with netting.

This is one of those dream jobs, like being the Dreyer's ice cream taste tester. Some guys have all the luck.

As for neutralizing, I'd imagine a bunch of limestone dropped in there wouldnt hurt the matter. A lot of the acid mine recovery efforts here in PA do that. Not sure if they have limestone out there or not though

What an awesome place for everyone to go shoot long range! Its over a mile long and with a spotter you can tell exactly where you hit. And you have some duck sized targets to aim at.

Yea.......they are there to scare them away. But why is he the only one there? He should have a lot of company every day to make sure the ducks are saved.

And if you hit one every now and then? Sorry, my bad! Poofa road trip?
