You have a duty to provide proof of licensure upon lawful demand, if you're carrying concealed or in a vehicle. I don't think the courts have defined "lawful demand".

Generally, I don't think you have any legal requirement to say a word in most encounters. Sometimes you have to identify yourself verbally, sometimes you have to provide something substantial in the way of ID. But the 5th Amendment usually allows you to decline the conversation without being charged with obstruction or anything. That doesn't mean the cop won't get peeved and cobble together something else.

But there's one question that I've had with police more than once. "Do you have anything on your person or in your car that can hurt me?"

That's a loaded question. Even if I'm not armed with a knife or gun, there are many things in my car and on my person that can hurt someone. I am almost never in a position where I'm truly unarmed.

Yes, that's what I thought at first, but I have heard the exact question multiple times. So it got me thinking maybe it's standard. There's a lot of things that can hurt him, though.

Negative Ghostrider. Ohio SB215 eliminated that requirement last summer.

Citizens will no longer have the duty to "promptly" notify every law enforcement officer during an official stop. Instead, the person must disclose that they are carrying a concealed handgun only after an officer asks.

However from my understanding if your asked you must inform.

A very worthwhile question, because even the nastiest killer will answer truthfully. Proven fact!
