PHILADELPHIA - Authorities are searching for a group of young men who they say have stolen several rental cars off the lots of major car rental companies at Philadelphia International Airport. Investigators say the pattern of thefts began in January, when groups of two-to-six people would sneak onto the rental car lots that are often protected by fences, gates, or barriers.

Michael Salerno, 50, was shot and killed around 10:45 p.m. on July 12 at 12th and Porter streets.
Investigators say Salerno was shot when three males, thought to be between 15 and 20 years old, were trying to carjack his vehicle.

While trying to stop them, Salerno was shot once in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Friday, police identified one of the suspects as 15-year-old Rasheed Banks Jr, who is considered armed and dangerous.

PHILADELPHIA - A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection to the shooting death of a man who attempted to intervene in an armed carjacking last month in Philadelphia, authorities say. The U.S. Marshals Service in Philadelphia reported that Rasheed Banks Jr. was taken into custody Monday in Camden, New Jersey, for the shooting death of 50-year-old Michael Salerno.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Law enforcement sources confirmed a state prisons correctional sergeant shot a suspect who also shot her during an attempted carjacking in North Philadelphia.

Investigators said it happened around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday while the victim was pumping gas at North 22nd Street and West Allegheny Avenue in North Philadelphia.

"The cameras clearly show the 35-year-old putting gas in her BMW vehicle when the male approaches her and grabs her, puts her in a bear hug from behind and then there's a physical altercation and they both pull weapons and they shoot each other," said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
