2023 Autoshow-metal detectors

Hmm, just looked at Philly Auto Show web page and see this:

"Please leave your firearms at home to avoid any issues when going through our metal detectors. Per Pennsylvania Convention Center policy, only on-duty, uniformed police officers may carry any firearms inside the building (regardless if you have a permit to carry)."

I go almost every year and this is a first. I've been to other events at Convention Center with detectors and screening and some there was nothing, no pat downs, no detectors, etc. Oh well afraid it was coming.

IANAL, but maybe one of our members should remind the Pennsylvania Convention Center that as a municipal authority, operating under Pennsylvania's Municipality Authorities Act, they are in violation of PA's preemption statute, since an authority is typically considered an independent corporate agent of the Commonwealth.

" It [the authority] may establish reasonable standards, rules and regulations for operation of its facilities, but may not unduly infringe on the property rights of its customers."


Ultimately the authority should be construed as another public measure of governance:
- they are required to use public bids over $10K,
- they can issue bonds,
- they are subject to general state laws protecting the public interest, including the Sunshine Law, the Open Records Act and the State Ethics Act
- Municipal authority employees may participate in the Pennsylvania Municipal Retirement System.


As such, they should be required to abide by the pre-emption rules set forth in PA 18, ss6120, just like when AG Kane told the casino commission they couldn't regulate firearms in casinos. Authorities are allowed to have their own police force, which I assume should have MPOTEC training. Maybe remind their officers that a clear violation of PA's preemption might remove their qualified immunity in a lawsuit if they try to violate your second and fourth amendment rights?

sure but its still philly when you go outside. last time i was there, there was crazy angry people screaming about weird things out front.

That's a pointless procedure, but anything for the sheeple to feel safe.

If the checkpoint is ran by low wage workers who are just going through the motions, I'd say try your luck. Be nonchalant, and if things escalate, just say you're licensed and were confused about the policy. If off duty PPD, different story.

Yeah, throw shade towards me if you want, but that's my SOP these days. Has worked 3/3 times when unexpectedly confronted with security theater.

If I recall----Liberty Bell Center qualifies as a "FEDERAL building in a National Park" - much like the post office or any Federal Facility........you could have been a Bubba bunk-mate
