Deep pockets or not, any intelligent business model will scrutinize cost vs return and react accordingly. I'd love to hear what it costs one of them to have a display with five vehicles in it.

its not just Philly thats had the issue. lot of manufacturers have been bailing on auto shows in the last couple of years. in the case of the really high end cars, its local dealers that provided the cars not the manufacturer like Ferrari.

What business in their right mind would take expensive cars or other equipment to the lawless streets of Philadelphia. What employee would go? The Auto Show company needs to move the show to Oaks where there is parking and no need for metal detectors because everyone is carrying. I went to the model train show two weeks ago and there no metal detectors. As I discussed with a friend I go fishing with and the other boomer things we do there is no reason for us to go to Philly for anything anymore, Car Show, Flower Show, Christmas Village, Thanksgiving Dinner at City Tavern, Stolen Art from the Barnes Foundation, Engine 60,000 at the Franklin Institute, nothing.

The Pennsylvania Auto Show at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg was also this past weekend. According to their exhibitor list, they had all the manufacturers that were at Philly AND all of the ones that were missing. Didn't realize it until after we'd already gone to the Philly Show. Haven't been the to PA show in probably 10 years because the Philly show always had more cars. Guess that's not the case any longer; or at least for now.

wonder if the difference is the cost associated with Unions. Does the Philly one have the same issue as Vegas where nothing can be done in the building without a union person doing it? is there also used car sales there, at least thats what it looks like on map.

Harrisburg probably has the same without the anal insanity that Philthytown would have. Unless things have changed since I retired trucking, there is only a small handful of expo companies out there who could handle a gig like that. Imma guess...cheaper venue, less chance of getting shot or jacked, easier access for the attendees, friendlier parking, cheaper hotels for all who are staying a night. The only downside I could see would be the lack of eatin' joints.

Interesting chatter on Reddit regarding the lack of manufacturers. I didn't go last year. Wasn't in the market for a car then, now I am.

But this year people say it*s the industry. That they realized from covid that auto shows don*t impact their sales as much as youtube and other methods. So most auto shows are lacking the luxury involvement except for the major auto shows where they reveal new cars and concepts."

Those shows cost the vendors a boatload of money and I'm sure it's gone up since last year. I reckon that the cost vs benefit ratio has gone out of whack. Everywhere you look, the squeeze is coming on strong. Smaller portions, higher prices, no more extras when you buy something. No facet of our lives shall be spared.

Damn Jen. You make Center City seem worse than downtown Afghanistan. While I can*t stand what the politician and progressives have done to big cities and I can*t say Philadelphia is a safe place to travel without being super aware of your surroundings, it is not like they are driving million dollar cars thru Kensington.

People still come to Philadelphia because of things that are in Philadelphia. You are not going to find the Liberty Bell in Oaks.

We still travel to Baltimore and NYC to see things that are there and to eat and drink at restaurants that are there. I refuse to let criminal aholes deprive me of my fun, excitement, enjoyment and adventure.

If you are that scared, by all means stay home. It*s probably safer in your basement.

You do what you like. It's not just "THE" neighborhoods anymore. Center City is just as dangerous as any of "THE" neighborhoods. Not only that if I have to defend myself I'm more likely to be prosecuted than the criminal that attacked me. There are plenty of other places to go that don't involve having your head on a swivel all the time. I worked in some the most dangerous places in Philly from time to time and sometimes I had a Police escort but it's far worse now than it was back then.

We've got conductors on trains now that refuse to hit the platforms because it's become so dangerous. That only used to happen in places like Lamokin Street in Chester or Chester Station itself. There was a conductor and assistant robbed at gunpoint at Queen Lane a year or two ago and the list goes on. Ever work North Broad Street station at night or have to park a truck to fix a train at North Philadelphia Station? I found myself climbing through abandon factory debris to get to the tracks in North Philly with homeless and who knows what living there. Even after all that it was still safer back then than Center City is today and now I can carry and wear body armor. The city is out of control. I didn't cede to the criminals the democrats that run the city did.
