    Rice is a grain.
Not all dogs are affected, but when they are it's a big deal.

Thanks. I take your opinions on this matter seriously.

When Roofus was at the heart specialist at PVSEC it boiled down to get him off the grain free diet and recheck in a year.
"If his heart starts to recover, that tells us it was the food, if no change, it's just a congenital thing that happened naturally."

He was given meds to take, but there's no medication that will "reverse" an enlarged heart - it could only help slow progression.
3 vets, including the cardiologist said that his heart was "HUGE". She said he wasn't at the point where he could collapse and die, but NO physical exertion or that could do it.

A year later and he was fine. We noted that he was no longer panting after coming up steps or light play with Mardi.
Tests were done and his heart had returned to normal size.

I think they still don't know the exact cause, but there's a definite link to grain free diets, but as I said, it doesn't affect all breeds the same way.

I think that happened to my friends dog, just let out a big yelp and that was that.
It was a grain free diet.
