    Default Smith & Wesson M&P 5.7 Pistol

Looks like the rumors are true. S&W just dropped an M&P in 5.7x28mm. Can't find much info out there, but here's a review by Honest Outlaw.

Meh. The ammo costs 2 x what 9mm does. Maybe if/when PSA starts pumping out cheaper ammo to feed it. I'm a fan of M&Ps, but other than coming out with something new just because of Shot Shot, dunno.

The only advantage I see is that it won't be as hard on spent cases as other 5.7's. Though I don't know how much of a selling point that will be given the number of people who actually reload for it.

The new barrel design makes it a gas operated, locked breech system. Means lower recoil, better reliability, and will probably function without the need for the cases to be coated. That's significant when compared to the direct blowback design of the Ruger, FN, and PSA offerings.

How does it compare to the rock? I was going to buy the rock, but now it seems that i might have to get this instead.

Why limit yourself to just one or the other? Get both!

I don't know how much recoil reduction you're going to get, the 5.7 doesn't really have any to start with. Also I don't know that I agree about better reliability, since adding complexity to the system rarely improves it. While you're probably right about the cases not needing the coating I doubt that any manufacturer is going to make ammo that will only be reliable in one gun.
