Default N.J. is seeking tough restrictions for carrying guns in public.

“The game has changed with respect to how you’re going to get a gun in New Jersey,” New Jersey state Senate President Nicholas Scutari, D-Union, said during a Thursday press conference unveiling legislation that would, among other things, set guidelines on where people could carry guns in the state.

Some N.J. gun owners could be forced to buy liability insurance under new plan to toughen laws

    More from Fox news:

Democratic Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and Senate President Nicholas Scutari, surrounded by other lawmakers and red T-shirt-clad Moms Demand Action supporters, said the new measure will bar permit holders from carrying in schools, polling places, bars, restaurants, theaters, sports arenas, airports, casinos and child care facilities.

It also sets up a new requirement that permit holders carry insurance to protect against accidental discharge, coverage that Scutari said is already available in insurance marketplaces. The bill increases permitting, though the exact amount wasn't immediately clear. The funds will be put toward compensation for crime victims under the legislation.

Wonder if they could conjure up something like this for welfare recipients.

It gets even worse than the carry license restrictions and insurance, if that's imaginable. They can just preempt a whole bunch of people from getting guns period just with this new crap as well. You literally could not pay me to live in that state.

New Jersey Bills Require Psych Evaluation, Police Approval to Buy Firearms

Recent bill introductions in New Jersey make it nearly impossible to buy a hunting rifle or shotgun. The bills force hunters to navigate a gauntlet of subjective governmental approvals that depend on the opinions of bureaucrats and those who might have anti-gun biases. Assembly Bill 4717 and Assembly Bill 4769 require such outlandish prerequisites as psychological evaluations and home inspections by government officials before gaining approval to purchase a firearm.

Without a Firearms Purchaser Identification Card (FPIC), a person is prohibited from purchasing a rifle or shotgun for any reason. Under A 4717 an applicant for a FPIC must submit to a psychological evaluation that the government claims will be kept confidential. The person must also submit to a home inspection where the government will determine if the person is qualified to purchase a firearm.

A 4769 would allow the government to reject a FPIC to a person who is "known in the community in which the person lives as someone who has engaged in acts or made statements suggesting the person is likely to engage in conduct, other than justified self-defense, that would pose a danger to self or others." The bill further allows the government to prevent a person from buying a firearm because they are "found to be lacking the essential character or temperament necessary to be entrusted with a firearm."

There might be some good to this bill. It might send a message to the fudds that gun bans don't only apply to semi auto long guns and handguns.

I make the argument that being a resident of N.J. should be looked upon by the court as Judicial Notice.
If you reside in N. J. By choice, you*re telling the court you should not have access to firearms at any time as your judgement is far too flawed to allow you access to adult items like guns.

Lets see if anyone in NJ actually gets a license before worrying about this. Personally I doubt it.

The legislature is throwing just about every bill against the wall to see what sticks.
