Default What scope to use for 300 yards

Any recommendation for a scope that will work at 300 yards on an AR 15? I was looking at Trijicon ACOG but it’s north of 1k. Is there anything less expensive? It’s needed for the public range.

Put this on my AR last year and been hittting steel out to 500 pretty easily. Great scope, and wasn*t expensive.

Are you shooting paper or steel? I shoot out to 300 with a 10x scope and it*s fine. But to see .223 holes in paper at that range you need some serious magnification, think 60X spotting scope. Splatter targets like Shoot n See will help.

I subscribe to the AAoptics notification list. They get factory refurbished Vortex scopes in several time a year, and usually have great deals on them and the Vortex lifetime warranty extends to refurbs.

Not much to look through now. I have some Vipers on higher end (600yd+) rifles but most of my sub-400yd rifles have Diamondbacks 2.5-10x with the larger 50mm objective.

Primary arms, I have 1x 2.5x and will be getting a 3x and 5x all with the acss reticle similar to the acog but for less than $400.

Yes I shoot paper and then walk down the range to see results.

I clicked on the link, 3 models pop up. First and second are around $200. Do those not have magnification?

The 3rd model appears 2 pieces and is $659.99. I am wondering what the differences are.

One of my buddies told me that Optics Planet donates to anti-gun causes so I don't consider them when buying. I did not look into it though but he is pretty reliable.

The 4-14 in the name is the magnification. Ballpark will want at least 1 x magnification per each 50 yards, so for 300, a 6x would be the minimum. There's a few ways to go. If you also were going to shoot things close, then say a 1-8 or 1-10 LVPO could be good. If only farther out, then something like the 4-14 sounds good. Past that you can think about the reticle inside. If you want something on the simple side or a whole tree. There's the focal plane. A second focal plane will be cheaper, those doing long range usually prefer a first focal plane, but then they also cost more. In general, I've found glass is you get what you pay for. But a decent one could be hand for a few hundred. Closer to 1,000 there's more options. There's a reviewer, the Dark Lord of Optics, he goes over a ton of these.
