Default 🔥 Bottling up some Boilo

🤔 It's a favorite holiday tradition in the coal regions of Pennsylvania. Making and or buying Boilo. The brew has a rich history with an even more interesting taste.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — It's a holiday staple in the coal regions of the Keystone State.

A tradition that goes back a few hundred years.

    I am talking about Boilo.

It's an Americanized version of an Eastern European drink called Krumpnik that was popular during the holidays.

But when the Eastern Europeans settled in the coal regions, they didn't have the resources to distill, so they came up with this brew.

I was pretty sure I knew of all of the festive Christmas drinks but Boilo is new to me. But I'm game. I know they said there are thousands of ways to make it but does the recipe in the video seem correct? It seems like there is an insane amount of fruit and cinnamon in it and I would never put the alcohol in it first. Wouldn't it be better to cook down the fruit first then add the alcohol at the end? And what do you do with the fruit? Seems like a lot to throw away.

And I though I knew of every bourbon too so tell me about Four Roses. I don't remember ever seeing that brand.

Four Roses has been in the bourbon business for generations. They strickly exported their products oversees. That just started again to deal in the American market a few years back.

We're not talking top shelf stuff...you're better off with the extra flavors. Be like that winter cinnamon whiskey recipe that is here on POOFA. Which reminds, me I should go make a batch of that...

A guy I used to see on my route hooked me up with some once. An old family recipe from the coal regions. Their recipe worked for me.

It's the official drink of Skooks and pretty nasty. Tastes like a weak whisky sour with cloves, lemonade, and piss.

The only thing worse is beer juice.

From what I'm hearing, it's a matter of recipe and I can tell you that what I had was pretty good.
