newbie with a few ??

as the title says, I will be in the market for my first hand gun. I live in lehigh county and I will get a permit to carry. what type of info do they require to get a cc permit? I'm a veteran of the army and only ever shot rifle's and shotguns so before I carry I will go to a range and get familar with the hand gun I decide to purchase. Where can you carry or I should say where can you not? And how does it work when you go out of state? Is there a federal permit to carry in all state's? thanks

There is a flier in this thread that will answer a lot of your questions. You can probably go on line to your counties sheriffs site and download the forms for the application for the license to carry a firearm.

No such thing as a Fed. permit. You pa permit is honored here

Some additional states can be covered by getting a non-res FL or UT permit.

Forget about NY and NJ. I know that one is coming

You must apply to the sheriif in the county you reside. It's usually a simple process
