Not being a wise guy, but killing doe after the rut will end the Pennsylvania whitetail population !

Re: Good luck
🤔 Pa.’s experiment of moving opening day for firearm deer season has been a failure | Opinion
By Randy Santucci and Dan Davila
The Pennsylvania Game Commission changed the most popular deer hunting weekend in 2019, moving a 60-plus-year tradition of opening day on the Monday after Thanksgiving to the Saturday after the holiday.
As Thanksgiving is the most travelled family holiday of the year, you can understand how that created problems for hunters with family conflicts. Additionally, hundreds of thousands of hunters travel considerable distances to go to camps and hotels -- this rushed time frame of two fewer days between the holiday and opening day breeds further contempt for the Saturday start.
Businesses en route to hunters’ final destinations were no longer patronized due to time constraints, and these small shops in rural northern Pennsylvania lost their Black Friday and Small Business Saturday -- for some their most profitable sales weekend of the year.
There was a compromise to put one of the newly approved Sundays in the following weekend, creating 13 continuous hunting days starting with the Monday opener. If you couldn’t hunt the Monday, you had a two-day weekend, just a few days away, but the PGC commissioners chose the quantum leap that divided hunters, rather than this more sensible and balanced approach. There was no deer management or biological basis for this change.
Initially, changing the Monday deer opener was opposed by a strong majority of hunters. This included an overwhelming 89% of opposition contacts directly to the PGC during the public comment period and an earlier hunter survey revealing 65% opposed. A myriad of other metrics was brought forth that historically guided PGC decisions, but five of the eight commissioners ignored them all. There was obviously more driving this decision than sound assessment of data.

Re: Good luck
I just came in from our last day to hunt deer this season.
Beautiful day to sit under a tree with my .44 Henry.
I was in the woods quite a bit this year.
Before early archery, I had 5 trail cams out and saw a few nice buck hanging out on my salt Block.
I.passed on 2 small 8 points knowing a few bigger boys were around.
As stated here before, they crawl into a hole. I never saw the 12 point after his initial visits.
The big 8 I would see on and off and had hopes of him stopping by.
That nontypical might also have been a mount. I still.think he had 2 triple brow tines.
After early archery ( season 1) came old mans and young kids rifle doe season.
3 days. I didn't see a deer in 2A so got skunked in season 2.
Rifle season ( season 3 ) was also a bust and I mixed it up with a few rifles and my crossbow.
Season 4 ( late archery for me and flint for many) was when I scored the 9 point.
Not a single person I know got a deer this year. That was odd.
My flinter buddy was at his farm today and saw 2 deer as he was cleaning up at dark.
So, all in all, a good season, got out quite a bit. My knees hate me to the point I'm not applying for a cow elk tag in Wyoming.
A couple of the old guys are losing interest or its getting to be too difficult. I suppose my time will come.
I'm going to sell off a savage. 300 win mag, my.pump .06, and maybe the National Ordnance .06. That'll leave me my Tikka, 7mm mag , 30 30 and Henry.
I can still climb my tree, I was able to drag that deer and still enjoy being out in the woods.
Good luck. Hope a few more of you guys did ok.Opinions are like anal apertures. They all stink but mine.

Re: Good luck
Saw a 8 or 10 point buck on my way to work yesterday 100 yards from the West Vincent muni/police station. Every morning is 'dodge a deer' commute out here.
