We used to take road kill all the time. Just check its temperature first.

I was 20 feet up in a tree and 5 buck came by.
First one was a curved 6 inch 2 point that looked up at me 3 times.
I took.out my phone for a pic and saw more movement.

4 more buck came in at 15 to 20.
This 9 point was #4 and the biggest rack of the 5.
He gave me a broadside presentation and I took.it.
The bolt passed thru at around 20.
He ran about 60 and slid another 20.

The uphill drag took me 2 hours for 100 yards.

Luck for me he was a smaller bodied deer.

Maybe next year when I'm 74, it'll get
    easier

Congrats, nice tine length. You saw more bucks in 1 session than I saw all season!

    Thanks
I've never seen that many buck at once.
I went out to Avella today and cut some shooting lanes for an Archery Monday.
I don't do flint and still have 2 2A tags so Ten Point crossbow it is.

I was getting a bit lazy and blowing off morning hunts just because I was not seeing anything but a little success breeds desire I suppose. Another week for 2A and a couple more for 2B.

I use 10 points carbon bolts and have been using Spitfire 100gr 3 blade mechanical opening heads since I hung up the
Bear Whitetail Hunter And Golden Eagle Evolution.

Early on, I used the 2 blade version of that head.

    This was earlier today.

I took my old Loggy Bayou this morning and couldn't lift it with my legs to climb so after really struggling for 5 feet, I got down and just ground hunted.

I'll fab a climber assist out of some aluminum I have. I like being up in a tree

So, about 45 min ago, this nontypical stopped by under my tree.

He has been nocturnal for most of the season. With a week and a half left for special regs, I hope he makes it through.

My second camera took his pic with an IR flash at the same time which was cool.

I would like to get a full frontal pic of him.
A few shots it appears that he has 2 triple brow tines. His right side is deformed and smaller.

Aside from the 12 point I no.longer see and a big 8 point, this is the guy I was hoping for and now hope ge gets bigger. Ha.

I took my Henry 44 for a walk today and think he'll get more time the next week at a farm I got permission to hunt

Here's that guy from the back.

That double shot pic is perty. Are they atypical for life or just one season, or what?

    I'm not 100% sure.
I've read that in some cases it's genetic and in other cases it's a one year deformity usually caused by injury.
In some cases, the injury deformity can be permanent.

This was the nontypical I shot a few years ago. A small rack but 3 main beams was odd.

I watch quite a few of these deer develop from spring through fall.

    Some continue to visit.
    Many are one time sightings.

One of the big boys on the farmers property I*m not allowed to hunt made it. Found 1 half of his rack the fell off during shed hunting. Farmer was afraid he didn*t make it.
