Default Help me ID this rifle......

Hey folks.......I'm digging out this killer looking rifle:

    From this page here:
    http://www.ultimak.com/pic23.htm

OK - I'm gathering that it's some cusom based off of the .30carbine M1......is that correct? What'd they do? take an M1 ant put a new EVERYTHING around it (as in aftermarket)?

I'm not keen on the .30carbine round though!

It appears to be an updated M1A1. Summary of the M1 carbiine:

    Here's an original 1943 M1A1:

I don't use it anymore, ammo's getting expensive and I became bored with it years ago.

If you're in the market you can also take a look at the SOCOM and SOCOM II setups.

"The rifle is the weapon of democracy. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military. The hired servants of our rulers. Only the government-and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws." (Edward Abbey, "The Right to Arms," Abbey's Road [New York, 1979])
I have my rifle. Do you?

That is a reworked carbine. Original 43 would not have adj. rear sight or bayonet lug these were later govt. modifications. Pre Korea

M1 carbine, looks like a Choate folding stock, I believe the top tac rail is the Utilimak part, Aimpoint red dot, tac sling, 15 rd. mag. Has the later rear site and bayo lug. Many surplus carbines where refited with these after WW2.
M1 carbines are sweet guns, just the round is not the best, but take that, add a few 30 rd. mags, and you got it goin.
Watch out for some of the aftermarket 30's, some brands are crap, espically USA.
Back in the day, a friend and I that both had carbines split a 50 mag lot of 15 rd. mags, we got the lot (mil surp new in the paper wrapers) for $60 shipped.
