Re: Everyone get their rifle ready for saturday?
Surprisingly few members of the shoot three rounds, walk 200 yards club have been at the local ranges this year.

Re: Everyone get their rifle ready for saturday?
I put a new scope on the Aught-Six. It came with an ancient cheapo Simmons that had walleye-vision.
Sighted it in on Sunday in the low 30 degree temps with a 20 to 25 mph cross breeze. It was pretty friggin cold when the wind whipped up. First shot at 100 yds was about a foot low at 6:00. Not bad for eyeball bore sighting it at 50 yds. I walked it up from there.
Granddaughter shot the bullseye out of her target with her M77 bolt gun with surplus German .308, she's ready. She sent out for her doe tag before I did.

Re: Everyone get their rifle ready for saturday?
Been playing around with the .450 Bushmaster. Had a good subsonic load worked up with Unique but I'm running low on that powder. I decided to switch to Universal which seems to be an ok substitute. The trick is getting a subsonic charge to push a 275 grain JHP. The drop is something in the ballpark of 12-14" at 100 yards, so with a zero at 50 yards its about 4"-5" low at 100. Hunting in the woods doesn't really provide a shot beyond 100 yards, so minute of pie plate @ 100 yards is acceptable. Generally speaking the shoulder of a deer doesn't react well to 275 grains moving 1,100 fps so it does the trick.
The 30-06 and 8mm are both shooting silver dollar groups. Ya know in case I need to impress the tacticools by shooting the wings off a fly. I should be getting laughed off the range since the 06 is universally hated Rem 710 rocking the cheap Bushnell scope it came with.

Re: Everyone get their rifle ready for saturday?
I shoot my hunting rifles a lot whether it changing loads, new glass. Whatever.
The .06s ( pump 760 and NO1903A3 ) shoot well.
The .300 winmgs shoot well.
The 30 30 shoots well.
The .44 henry shoots pretty good.
The Rem 700 shoots really well.
I did not shoot the slug gun this year as I'm phasing it out for the .44 Henry.
The revolvers are all good to 50.
I can hit a pie plate at 50 with all.of them.
Does that mean I'm ready?
I think I am.
I passed on 2 small racked 8 points so far in archery.
I have a couple bigger racked animals hanging around.
A pretty nice 8, a small bodied 12 point with a double brow tine.
A non typical 8 which is a low wide rack.
A few more legal but smaller buck.
I've shot deer with my crossbow in rifle season and have been hitting it lucky fopr quite a few years. At some point, the luck will pass. I'm ready for that too.
I also have a hunting load ready for my PA10 hoping that, at age 73, ill be able to shoot a deer with it before I cant drag deer anymore.Opinions are like anal apertures. They all stink but mine.

Technically, CW III. The British colonists rebelled against the Crown in the 1770's for taxation without representation, the South rebelled against the central govt in the 1860's for outvoting them and forcing them into a captive market (restricting Southern exports of raw materials and imports of manufactured goods for the benefit of the industrial North), and the next would likely be against the globalist fraudsters who hijacked our government, media, and industries via blackmail and bribery.
