From what I have seen (multiple friends having them, lots of students in class & in the defensive pistol league that I ran having them, my wife having one {albeit for a very short time}) they seem to be pretty reliable guns.

As to the grip safety, on two occasions I have witnessed shooters fail to depress the grip safety and get a shot off.
    1. Shooter was at an IDPA match, target was set at 1 yard away, drill was to draw to a retention position and fire 2 rounds, then step back and engage a couple of other threat targets a short distance away. On the beep, he drew; but failed to acquire a good grip and didn't get any rounds off.

    2. A drill we were running involved a charging target and the shooter drawing while moving off-line. Under the "stress" of the charging target and having to move, the shooter failed to depress his grip safety as he drew his gun, again failing to get any rounds off.

Does it happen a lot, no it doesn't. Can it happen, yes it can.
Tomorrow's battle is won during today's practice.

That happened to me in a class practicing the Tueller Drill, but I was using an Airsoft version of my XDm 9mm. I got the draw on my opponent, but I didn't have a complete grip on the gun and it didn't go off. One of the instructors in the class said he keeps a rubber band around the grip safety on his XD 45 for that reason. I don't carry my XDm; it's strictly for competition. I've never had a problem with my real XDm in any match having shot a few thousand rounds through it. I carried a 1911 OWB for years and never once worried about the grip safety. But all of my 1911s have grip safeties with a bump out. It's almost impossible to miss, even with a half-assed grip.

The only ones I think are worth buying are the original "tactical" models with 5" barrels.

Are the original guns worth anything as a collector piece?
Are they still sold in the US? (I doubt it)

I'm talking about whatever they were called before Springfield bought the rights to them.

The HS2000. Gunbroker has zero for sale and zero sold, so I'm guessing they aren't particularly desirable.

    Ha.
I remember handling one at a gun show probably a year or so before the Springfield version was released.

Nobody wants to sell their collector Croatian Sensation.

I never had a problem with the grip safeties. I started off with 1911s, so maybe that's why.

I have an older XD9 that I put a Powder River 4# trigger assembly in and it is a good shooter. The original trigger was not very good.
