    Default Another "what recipe" question.

    Hi again,

My husband just just a Walther PPS in .40 S&W so I get to reload a new caliber (Yahoo!!). For practice, he's just going to use a 180gr Lead Flat Nose bullet (anyone have a recipe they like for that? I have Unique powder for my reloading needs - .32acp, .45 colt, .38 sp and .357mag) but don't mind getting other powders.

The real question is he wants to use a new round he found for carry. Hornady XTP 200gr JHP. Any thoughts on a recipe for this, I can't find a recipe anywhere for this bullet.

    thanks in advance!

Thanks! That's a great site. I've only ever used Unique so maybe I'll have to get some more powders.

My husband was reading that you could get velocities over 1,000 fps with this bullet but it looks like it's not going to get that with these powders. Though, maybe 900+ is close enough.

Hodgdon makes some great powders. Titegroup is great for high pressure rounds like the .40 and 9mm

I don't think a BG is going to know the difference between 1000fps and 900fps if the shot is placed properly, by the way.

Why such a heavy weight? it only proves to overpenetrate. Use a lighter round and it will be easier to get a higher velocity.
