New to PA, new to guns, lf some advice

Hello,

New firearm owner here. I moved to Lehigh Valley and purchased some firearms. I have no experience with firearms.

Looking for suggestions on trainging and ranges preferrably in Lehigh area, but will travel if need be.

After you find some, see if you can find reviews on them to ensure that you are getting good instruction that meets your needs and skill level. You can plug in your local information here and get a list of some in your area.

One thing I found is to become familiar with your gun. Without ammo, strip it and learn it's parts, what goes where and how it opperates. Then put it back together, rack the slide, bolt, or action then take aim looking down the sights.

Even without ammo, never point it at something you are not ok with destroying, such as your wife, children, or the family dog. The ATF has dibs on your dog anyway. Guns are not toys and safety is just as important as operation.

For starters, learn the four basic rules of gun safety:

1. Treat all guns as loaded guns.

2. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. In other words, never point the gun at anything or anyone you're not willing to destroy.

3. Keep your finger off the trigger till you're on target and ready to fire.

4. Always know your target and what's beyond it.

These basic rules will serve you well not only as a beginner shooter but throughout your firearms experience. Do endeavor to learn and train and do know the law. Enjoy your newfound freedom!

@gman106, understood before the purchases
@jaysmith, did take them apart and put them back together (well, for the AR I just separated the receivers and took out charging handle/bcg and looked at that, similar with the handgun), have familiarized myself with them unloaded
@exbike, do you have any experience with either of them? actually bought 2 guns from relic...

Good safety advice from Jay and GMan.

My additional advice would be buy some Snap-Caps or something similar. It's better for dry-firing the gun, and after reassembly of the guns, you're probably going to want to check to make sure they chamber a round correctly. And it's much safer to do it in your home not using a live round.
