Default Father to Son transfer of a rifle

I'm trying to figure out what process needs to be done to transfer a rifle from father to son. My dad has an AR-15 that will eventually end up in my possession. We are thinking of doing a transfer from him to me because we are not sure of what will happen if/when a new ban gets put in place. Will we still be able to transfer it to me or do you think they will put something in that will prevent transfers of EBR's? regardless if it is father to son. Any info/thoughts are appreciated. The only reason we havent done the transfer yet is because I am stationed in the wonderful state of California.

There is no "registration"of firearms in Pa.
There is no "transfer" required between Pa. residents of long guns.

So since it is not "registered" it is not in anyones "name".

Just like your cell phone... If it is in your possession, you are the owner, unless someone has proof you stole it

Who is resident of what state?

If both are resident of the same state, and assuming they are PA residents, and it is taking place in PA under PA law - just hand over the gun. Even handguns can be just handed back and forth by parent/child in PA without any paperwork.

If you are both form PA the easiest way to do it would probably have him hand it to you. Then take it home and shoot the living piss out of it!!!!!

Same as a rifle, assuming both parent and child are residents of Pa.

No paperwork or anything is required between Parent and Child, Grandparent and Grandchild, or between spouses.

Spouses are technically not a transfer, I was told that it is under community property...

Doesn't the child have to be 18?

As far as purchasing a handgun for another for a (surprise) Christmas or a birthday present would it be wise (even if it is the truth)to say this upfront to a dealer? I'm guessing they would/might suspect you of trying a straw purchase! Wouldn't it be better to say nothing? Always wondered about that! Also if they offered them i guess you could go the gift certificate route.
